Bespoke Cataract Surgery
1. What is a cataract?
A cataract is when the lens of your eye becomes cloudy or opaque. If untreated this can lead to progressive vision loss and even blindness. The most common symptom of cataract development is blurred vision, but it can also present with glare and halos.
2. How are cataracts treated?
Cataracts are treated by replacing the opaque lens in the eye with a clear artificial lens. Modern advancements mean that this surgery is carried out using drops for anaesthesia and the surgery lasts about 15 minutes through a small incision of approximately 2mm. The surgery is painless with a quick visual recovery.
What are premium intraocular lenses?
Premium intraocular lenses give the opportunity to have better vision and to be less dependent on spectacles after the surgery. If you have astigmatism on the cornea, toric intraocular lenses can sharpen the vision. Other examples of premium intraocular lenses are multifocal lenses where distance, intermediate and near vision are corrected with the lens implant, this means that you can be completely free of glasses even for near. During your consultation, all the lens options will be explained in detail to you, and we will help guide you to make the best decision to improve not only your vision but also the quality of your life.
